The surgeries

Bariatric

Bariatric surgery or obesity surgery

Bariatric surgery is intended to be an effective medical treatment for obesity. It consists mainly in restricting food capacity in order to reduce the caloric intake of operated patients.

Surgical techniques have been refined in recent years and the risks and complications are lower due to a laparoscopic approach to the various surgeries offered. Laparoscopic surgery requires only small incisions in the abdomen and greatly reduces recovery time.

The Metropolitan Surgery Center is the only private hospital center in Quebec offering the expertise of surgeons specialized in bariatric surgery. All patients are hospitalized on site and post-operative follow-up is provided by a multidisciplinary team.

Endoscopic techniques are used in the ear, nose, and throat. This minimally invasive approach makes surgery effective and less time consuming. As a result, recovery time is also faster.

The concern to maximize function and aesthetics are at the heart of the surgeries we offer.

The 2 surgical techniques offered are as follows:

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or "bypass"

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or "bypass"

Gastric bypass is a weight-loss surgery that combines the effects of restriction (decreasing the size of the stomach) and malabsorption (food is diverted from the stomach into the intestine).

Vertical or parietal gastrectomy or "sleeve"

Vertical or parietal gastrectomy or "sleeve"

This surgery significantly reduces the size of the stomach. It is the restrictive effect (reduction in the size of the stomach) on the ingestion of food that causes weight loss.
