MISSION

The Metropolitan Surgery Center serves private clients. Its primary activities include gender-affirming surgeries, elective and reconstructive cosmetic surgeries, laparoscopic bariatric surgeries, urological procedures, and otolaryngology surgeries. Additionally, the Center offers pre- and post-operative care, recovery units, and skilled staff attuned to clients’ needs.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the RespiratoryTherapy Manager, the respiratory therapist works closely with the medical teamand colleagues to ensure quality, safe care tailored to patient needs, incompliance with current professional practice standards.
They assist the anesthesiologist by monitoring patients clinically and maintaining their vital functions. They play an active role in emergencies, such as cardiopulmonary arrest.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the anesthesiologist with various procedures (nerve blocks, spinal anesthesia, general anesthesia, sedation, analgesia)
  • Follows anesthesiologists’ directives.
  • Participates in the safe positioning of patients.
  • Documents actions and observations in patient records(anesthesia and respiratory therapy charts).
  • Monitors the patient’s vital functions.
  • Ensures the patient’s well-being throughout surgery.
  • Performs blood samples when needed.
  • Preparescertain medications or substances requiring dilution for activation or injection.
  • Administers medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or through aerosoltherapy.
  • Administers authorized medications throughout surgery.
  • Establish nursing care plans (PTI) as needed
  • Complies with policies and procedures.
  • Plans their day and prepares the operating room with necessary equipment based on the surgical schedule.
  • Ensures equipment is functioning correctly by performing daily and monthly tests.
  • Review sand initials the latest communications in the designated binder.
  • Reports any issues related to tasks or operational activities to their immediate supervisor.
  • Contributes to maintaining a harmonious work environment.
  • Applies the “onstage/offstage” concept.
  • Actively participates in infection prevention (e.g., handwashing).
  • Uses provided personal protective equipment.  
  • Ensures proper reprocessing of materials.

REQUIREMENTS

  • DEC in Respiratory Therapy
  • Member of the Ordre professionnel des inhalothérapeutes du Québec (OPIQ)
  • Experience in the operating room
  • Bilingualism (functional English)
  • Up-to-date CPR training
